Captain’s Day : Timesheet in Operation

Captain Leonard would like to remind all Club Members taking part in his Captain’s Day Competition to put their names on the Timesheet now displayed in the Clubhouse foyer.

Although the Clubhouse is currently closed for renovation works, the foyer can be accessed and the Timesheet is displayed on a noticeboard just inside the door. There is also a list for those attending the Captain’s Day meal to add their names and meal choices.

Club Members can play the Captain’s Day Competition on Friday, 8th July (all day) and on Saturday, 9th July (only up until 11.30am).

Cancer Research Competition

This weekend, Friday 1st and Saturday 2nd July we will hold our annual Cancer Research Competition. This is an 18 Hole Open Stableford Competition (or a 9 Hole Stableford for Seniors).

In Form Billy ‘Horschel’ Reynolds Wins Castle Hume Open

billy-reynoldsCastle Hume Golf Shop were the sponsor for last weekends open stroke  competition at an absolutely immaculate Clogher Valley, and it was in-form Billy Reynolds who was victorious with a brilliant 8 under par round nett 59.

Billy (affectionately known as “Horschel”) set himself up for a fantastic round with 4 straight parrs and a birdie at the 5th hole. Two more parrs and two bogeys left him 1 over gross after 9 holes and in with a great chance of taking  prizemoney off Packie Duffy AGAIN!! A 2nd nine of 4 parrs and 5 bogeys was just enough to record his 4th win of the year with an 8 under parr gross 73  nett 59. Billy, having seen his handicap cut twice already this season, has been cut another two shots and will now play off 12, much to the enjoyment of Mr.Handicap Secretary and Company!! Popular “Sunday Funday Club’s” Mervyn Farrell had to settle for 2nd but won the 22-28 handicap category with a brilliant 7 under parr nett 60 and will see his handicap cut from 28 to 27. Stan Montgomery finished 3rd with a nett 61 but won the 17-21 handicap category again, and is now in Malachy’s sights!

Lady Captain Mary’s Open Day

We had another very successful Lady Captain’s Open Day on Wednesday, 15th June when Lady Captain Mary Fee welcomed Club Ladies, visiting Lady Captains and Lady Golfers to C.V.G.C.

Refreshments were served in the Clubhouse on arrival giving guests and Club members an opportunity to catch up with one another and to view the beautiful prizes to be won. Prizes this year were kindly sponsored by Lady Captain Mary’s sons, Aaron and Stephen Fee, S A Fee Engineering, Tempo.

In a repeat of last year, weather conditions were wet in the morning for the Club Ladies’ groups but thankfully the afternoon brightened up and made for much more pleasant conditions. Some excellent scores were returned … but alas no-one managed a ‘hole in one’ on the third to win a lovely car – sponsored once again by Carzone Irvinestown. Lady Captain Mary extended her thanks to Gerry MacNamee for his continued support and generosity.

The day was rounded off with a finger buffet in the Clubhouse followed by the Prize Giving. In her speech Lady Captain Mary thanked Raymond & Violet for the fantastic condition of the course; Linda, Nadine and the Clubhouse staff for the delicious food served throughout the day; her sons for their sponsorship of the prizes; Victor for his dedicated help on the day and of course all the Lady Golfers who came along and made the day so enjoyable.

Lady Captain Mary received some beautiful flowers, cards and gifts on her special day. In lieu of gifts she asked that donations be given instead to I.C.U ward Craigavon Area Hospital.
