President’s Day Gets Underway

President Everett’s big Day is underway with Club Members, visiting Presidents and invited guests enjoying refreshments in the Clubhouse before teeing off on a cold but bright day in the Clogher Valley.

Prize Giving will follow a meal in the Clubhouse this evening (seated for 8.30pm please) – with the usual dancing and craic to the wee hours (no doubt!)

In lieu of gifts the President has asked for donations, if desired, to the ‘Make a Wish Foundation’.

Congratulations Everett on your President’s Day.

Results Crawford’s Fuels Stableford

With only one very generous prize, this competition attracted a considerable number of entrants. Vice-Captain, Seamus McGirr set the pace on Friday morning with a solid round, scoring 38pts. He remained the leader up to 6.30pm, Sunday when Charlie Keys arrived with 41pts (including a ding) to walk away with 1st place and his 2018 Membership paid for the coming season. Dave Johnston, (Charlie’s playing partner) also carded 38pts (with two dings) but was pushed into second place on Countback.

Sadly for Dave and Seamus there is no reward for coming second in this competition.

Linda Armstrong took the Ladies 1st prize, for the second year running, with a super round of 33pts – earning herself £100 towards her 2018 Membership.

Next Saturday 7th Oct, is President’s day. Members and visitors please note, course is reserved from 1pm so please use the time sheet, or phone Victor, so you won’t be disappointed.

Results of Peter Bogue Body Repairs Competition

There was a healthy number of entries for this competition considering the weather (dismal on Saturday). Friday morning had the Vice Captain (Seamus McGirr) set the standard with a creditable 38pts. That lasted about two hours when Norman Kerr arrived with 39.

Then “Strokey” as he is affectionately known, (Derek Wright), the assistant green-keeper, stroked in 40pts. Try as they might, the Sunday Club with lovely weather, just couldn’t match it. Players all remarked how well the course had soaked the persistent rainfall.

The only complaint was from John Moore. He said the greens had been “swished” and left them too fast. He had had a great start, but blew up after the turn. He is now employing a new blacksmith.

Many thanks is due to Peter Bogue, sponsor, as this competition had been postponed from earlier because of the weather.

Captain’s Day 2017 Results

The week began with the Ladies. They played Mon to Wed and then rolled up their sleeves to help with the work.

There was a real buzz of activity. Painting and decorating, cutting grass, mowing greens, clipping hedges, raking bunkers, gathering litter, washing signs etc, etc., and what a job they done. The place looked magnificent. (Not a “hare” out of place). The greens were playing faster than they’ve ever played and whilst the weather was causing some concern, it turned out to be better than expected.

Captain’s Day 18 hole Stableford began on Fri 8th. The course was closed from 11.30am on Saturday 9th for the Captain (Andy Armstrong) and his 60 guests who enjoyed a light lunch before tee off. The flower arrangements on the tees, (provided by David & Henrietta Willis) were the final compliment the course deserved, and the golf didn’t disappoint either. The Captain’s hospitality which we sampled at the half-way mark was truly heartwarming. Afterwards everyone retired to the Club House where “Rusks” restaurant did us proud with the food and service provided. The establishment was further complimented by the flower arrangements which adorned the building. These had been arranged by the Captain’s wife, Linda, and the President’s wife, Jennifer Bennett. There was music and dancing throughout the evening and the Captain’s draw concluded a marvelous occasion. The winner of the draw (£1000.00) was a “friend” of Malachy Graham. Malachy was speechless so Victor Collum asked him what was wrong “did the cat catch your tongue Malachy”?

Captain’s Draw…..All 600 tickets were sold so a major donation will be given to Clogher Valley Care Home for Dementia Care, as promised.

Results Diabetic Awareness Stableford | 1st to 3rd Sept 2017

Large turnout for this competition with the course playing exceptionally well up until Sunday when the rain eventually took it’s toll and left the going very soft. However, that didn’t hinder Maurice Coulter who carded a marvelous 44pts despite the conditions. Seamus McGirr & Paul Colgan had the dryer course on Friday and Saturday and came in with 41pts each with Seamus getting the better on count back.

On behalf of Victor and C.V.G.C. we would like thank all the sponsors of prizes and tee-boxes for this Competition. Photos of Prize Giving and presentation to Diabetes Awareness to follow later in the month.
